Each of these whimsical little sheep is ewe-nique and full of character. From their individual color palette, to their accessories, and name, no two sheep are the same. Each sheep comes with a Shear-tificate of Authenticity and ready to display directly on a shelf, or hang on the wall. Perfect for gifting.
Molly loves to bake in the kitchen, with a mixing bowl, a whisk, and a rolling pin close at hand. Her curly wool is swirled in raspberry pinks and cherry reds, the color of jam on a warm afternoon.
Materials & Process:
Each sheep starts with a name, followed by a hand made sketch, and a carefully chosen color palette. Once the preliminary work is complete, the sketch is carefully transferred to Arches 140lb cold press cotton watercolor paper. The sheep is then hand painted using Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolor paints.
While the painting dries, a Blick Premier Wood Panel with a 7/8” cradle is hand sanded, then gessoed, dried, and hand sanded again. Once the wood panel is primed and completely smooth a layer of acrylic gloss gel is added and the painted sheep is adhered to the board, gently smoothed with a brayer, and then weighted for 24 hours to fully cure. Once fully cured the excess paper is carefully trimmed and the edges gently sanded to a smooth, even edge. Once the edges are smooth it’s time to varnish. This is watercolor and it needs protection from the elements. The varnish is applied four times with multiple hours between coats. First a base coat in gloss. Then three more coats of matte varnish. Now the sheep must wait and rest for another 24 hours.
Finally it’s ready to display!
